What you will need

Use the papers in this order.

  1. Before you start, collect these papers.

    Have ready:

    • Your lease deed, with the renewal or termination clause marked
    • The lease expiry date, the lock-in end date and your rent payment record

  2. To stay on, make the notice exercising the renewal option and send it to the landlord within the time your lease gives.

  3. When you and the landlord agree the renewed terms, make the deed of renewal or extension, sign it and have two witnesses sign.

  4. To leave instead, once the lock-in is over, make the termination notice and send it to the landlord within the notice period your lease gives.

  5. Before you hand back the premises, make the reinstatement (make-good) agreement so both sides agree what is restored and what stays.
