What you will need
Use the papers in this order.
Before you start, get everyone in the family together and collect these papers.
Have ready:
- Ownership papers of the property to be divided
- The names and ID proofs of all family members who have a share
Write down what the family has agreed in the memorandum of family settlement.

A family member who is giving up their share in favour of another signs the relinquishment deed (Haq Tyag).

Ask the other heirs to sign a no objection certificate, so the office does not hold up the transfer.

Last, apply for mutation so the land record follows the family settlement.
