Why a kit

What you will need

Use the papers in this order.

  1. Before you start, have these ready.

    Have ready:

    • Your landlord’s full name, address and PAN card
    • The rented address, the monthly rent and the date the tenancy began
    • Your employer’s name and the year or months you are claiming for
    • Your bank statement or UPI record showing each rent payment

  2. Make a rent receipt for each rent payment you made, one receipt for each month, and get your landlord to sign each one. A receipt for cash rent above ₹5,000 may need a ₹1 revenue stamp, so ask your stamp vendor.

  3. Make the annual rent statement, which gathers the whole year’s rent in one record, and get your landlord to sign it.

  4. Check the current limit for the landlord’s PAN. If it applies to your rent, make the landlord’s PAN declaration, get your landlord to sign it, and give it to your employer.

  5. Check the current limit for tax on rent (section 194-IB). If your monthly rent is above it, make the intimation of TDS on rent and give it to your landlord.
