What you will need

Use the papers in this order.

  1. Before you start, collect these papers.

    Have ready:

    • Whatever you still have: photocopies, the registration number or date of the deed, the allotment number
    • A copy of the police report or complaint about the loss, if you made one

  2. If the original title deed is lost, swear an affidavit and indemnity bond that it is lost and that you will hold the other side harmless if it turns up.

  3. Apply to the sub-registrar for a certified copy (nakal) of the registered deed.

  4. If an allotment letter from an authority is lost, apply to the authority for a duplicate.

  5. For any other lost document, such as a share certificate or a passport, swear a lost document affidavit.
