Landlord and tenant police verification form, Chandigarh

The Chandigarh Police form on which a house owner gives the area police station details of the household and of each tenant, floor by floor. Pages 1 and 2 are about the owner. Pages 3 and 4 are about the tenants.

Issued by: Chandigarh Police, Chandigarh Administration

The form itself is in English, exactly as the issuing office prints it.

How to fill it in

  1. Check first: this form was made in 2006. Ask your area police station whether it still takes this paper form. The police also take tenant verification online, at the official link on this page, and a station may ask for its own shorter tenant form instead.
  2. Print all 4 pages. Fill them in by pen, in capital letters, as the form asks. Some headings are misspelt in the original ("LANDLOARD", "WEPON", "PRTICULARS"). Leave them as they are.
  3. Part 1, Landlord/Owner: the house number and sector or village, your name, since when you have held the house, your phone number and your father's or husband's name. Then your permanent address, its district, state and police station, a phone number there and your occupation.
  4. "Whether landlord residing in the House": strike out Yes or No. If you live in the house, fill in parts A to D below. Write "NIL" in any part that does not apply to you.
  5. Part A, family members living with you (room for 8): name, age, sex, relation, occupation and voter card number.
  6. Part B, vehicles owned by you or your family (room for 5): registration number, registered owner, type, make and model.
  7. Part C, licensed weapons (room for 3): type and make, bore, valid up to, licence number, licence holder and issuing authority. Part D, passports, at the top of page 2 (room for 3): passport number, holder, date of issue, issuing authority and nationality.
  8. "Having any servant" and "Having tenants": write Yes or No. If you have a domestic help, the police want their separate Servant Information form too, which is not in this file. If you have tenants, fill in pages 3 and 4.
  9. Write your name, sign and date under "Certified". Your signature says that the details are correct and nothing is hidden. Leave "FOR USE OF POLICE STATION" blank.
  10. Pages 3 and 4, one statement for each floor let out (page 3 has Floor 1 and Floor 2; copy the pages if you have more): the address, tenant's name, son, daughter or wife of, tenant since, occupation, phone, vehicle number and any licensed weapon. Then the tenant's permanent address with its police station, district and state, and where the husband and wife work. "Time of day/Night house in unoccupied" means the hours the floor stays empty.
  11. The table under each floor is headed "PRTICULARS OF MAIL FAMILY MEMBER'S": name, age, sex, relation and occupation. "MAIL" is most likely a misprint of "male". If you are not sure, list everyone who lives on that floor. Floor 2's table is on page 4.
  12. Hand the form in at your area police station. Take copies of the tenant's photo and ID and of your own ID and residence proof, which the police list for their online service. Ask for the "Received on" date and the diary number on your own copy. Tell the station if anything changes later, as the form asks.
  13. The law: the form says giving this information is compulsory, and cites sections 144 and 188 of the Cr.P.C. Those were replaced from 1 July 2024 by section 163 of the BNSS and section 223 of the BNS. Owners in Chandigarh have been booked under section 223 for not getting tenants verified, so do not put this off.
