What you will need

Use the papers in this order.

  1. Before you start, collect these papers.

    Have ready:

    • ID proof and address proof of everyone who will sign
    • How you will split the rent, the deposit and the monthly bills

  2. Make the joint tenancy agreement with the landlord, so all the flatmates are tenants together, and have everyone sign it.

  3. Between the flatmates, write down who pays what share of the rent, bills and shared costs in the cost-sharing agreement.

  4. Agree the house rules, such as guests, noise and cleaning, and attach them to the tenancy as an annexure.

  5. When the landlord takes the security deposit, get a receipt for it.
