What you will need

Use the papers in this order.

  1. Before you start, collect these papers.

    Have ready:

    • ID proof and address proof of everyone who will sign
    • The landlord's ownership paper and the rent, deposit and period agreed

  2. Make the registered rent agreement for three to five years. It has to be signed before the sub-registrar with two witnesses, so book the registration visit.

  3. Also prepare the tenancy agreement in the Schedule I Form (Kirayanama) required for a registered tenancy under the Punjab Rent Act, 1995.

  4. List the furniture and fittings in the inventory schedule and attach it to the agreement.

  5. Fill in the police verification report for the tenant and submit it as the local police station asks.

  6. Set out the rent payment dates, amounts and the standing instruction to the tenant's bank, so the rent is paid on time for the full term.
