When you need it

You've regained possession and found belongings that look like the former tenant's. Don't treat them as abandoned — record where stored and set a collection deadline. This notice claims no right to sell or discard just because the deadline passes.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

No stamp duty — a tenancy-fact record, not a leasehold interest. Repurposed into a fresh term or surrender for value, stamp accordingly.

Registration

Not compulsory unless it creates a registrable interest — a lease over a year or yearly rent is, under s.17(1)(d).

Notarisation

Not required; doesn't replace registration — a dated signature matters more.

Witnesses

Not required for a notice. Two witnesses suit agreements/settlements.
