Girdawari गिरदावरी ਗਿਰਦਾਵਰੀ
Girdawari is the Patwari's crop-inspection record. Twice a year the Halqa Patwari walks the fields and enters, for each khasra number, the crop sown and the person in cultivation or possession of the land.

What it's used for
- It is Punjab's ordinary evidence of who is on the land. Banks ask for it with a Kisan Credit Card or crop-loan application, insurers ask for it on a crop-insurance claim, and it is the standard evidence of who was cultivating a field in a boundary or possession dispute.
- It is evidence of possession and cultivation for the harvest recorded, not proof of ownership, and by itself it does not give or transfer title.
- For a copy, ask the Halqa Patwari, or take the computerised extract at the Fard Kendra of the tehsil or through jamabandi.punjab.gov.in, where recent harvests for most districts are digitised.
- Chandigarh sector property has no girdawari. Chandigarh's own revenue villages, such as Manimajra, keep one.

Questions about Girdawari
Does a girdawari entry prove who owns the land?
No. It is evidence of who was cultivating or in possession for the harvest recorded. Ownership is decided only in a civil court.
How often is the girdawari written?
Twice a year, at the kharif and rabi harvests. The Halqa Patwari inspects the fields and enters the crop and the person in possession against each khasra number.
Can a wrong girdawari entry be corrected?
Yes, but it is a contested proceeding: the other side gets notice and is heard, usually after a spot inspection, and the time is short. File in the same agricultural year, ideally while the crop is still standing. A copy application changes nothing.
