What it's used for
- A deed that describes land quotes its khasra number with the area, so the land can be identified. A vague description is the commonest reason a plot sale deed is held up.
- Copy it exactly as the fard shows it, with its area in kanal and marla. Do not convert to acres and do not round.
- The Patwari's girdawari is written against each khasra number: the crop sown and the person in cultivation or possession of the land.

Questions about Khasra
What is khasra called in English?
Field or plot number. Khasra, also written as the khasra (killa) number, is the number by which a field or plot is identified in the revenue record.
Khasra kya hota hai?
Khasra is the number that picks out one field or plot in the revenue record. Deeds, copies of the record and correction applications quote it together with the area, in kanal and marla, exactly as the fard shows it.
Is a khasra number the same as a killa number?
The library's forms use the two together, as the khasra (killa) number, for the number that picks out a field in the record. Copy it exactly as the fard shows it.
Does a khasra number show who owns the land?
No. A khasra number only picks out the field in the record. Who holds the land is shown in the jamabandi, and a fard is a certified copy of that entry.
What if the khasra number in the record is wrong?
Apply to have it corrected. A wrong number is not harmless, because it can point to land somewhere else. The library has a Khasra Number Correction Application for this.
