A sworn affidavit establishing the family relationship between two named persons — parent and child, siblings, spouses, grandparent and grandchild, and the like — for use in a visa application, typically alongside a Study Visa Sponsorship Affidavit or a Sponsor Financial Undertaking. Particularly useful where official documents show inconsistent particulars, such as different spellings across records or no formal birth record for an older family member, and a sworn relationship affidavit is asked for as corroboration.

Chandigarh applies its own Schedule I figure. Some consulates and visa-processing centres specify their own stamp-paper value or format for a relationship affidavit in their document checklist — where one is specified, follow it in preference to the general figure. Buy the e-stamp in the deponent's own name.

Not registrable — an affidavit creates no right in property, so Section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908 does not apply.

नोटरी

Required — sworn before a Notary Public, an Oath Commissioner, or an Executive Magistrate, with the deponent appearing in person with photo identification. Because this affidavit is generally relied upon outside India, some consulates additionally require an apostille (India is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention) from the Ministry of External Affairs or an MEA-appointed agency, or consular attestation, on top of notarisation — confirm the destination country's specific requirement.

RELATIONSHIP AFFIDAVIT FOR VISA

I, Gurmail Singh, S/o Sh. Mehar Singh, resident of House No. 77, Urban Estate, Phase II, Patiala, being a parent of both persons named below, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:

1. That I am competent to depose to the matters stated in this affidavit, being a parent of both persons named below. I have personally known both since their birth, both being my own children.

2. That the particulars of the first person are: Gurmail Singh, born on 4 June 1968, resident of House No. 77, Urban Estate, Phase II, Patiala.

3. That the particulars of the second person are: Simranjit Kaur, born on 12 January 2003, holding passport number N1234567.

4. That Gurmail Singh and Simranjit Kaur are related to each other as father and daughter.

5. That this relationship is evidenced by the following documents: the second person's birth certificate, recording the first person as father; the family ration card; and the Aadhaar cards of both persons, showing the same address

6. That the first person's name is recorded as "Gurmail Singh" in some documents and "Gurmail Singh Gill" in others; both refer to one and the same person.

7. That this affidavit is sworn in connection with a study visa application by Simranjit Kaur, for Canada, and may be relied upon by the visa or consular authority concerned.

8. That the contents of this affidavit are true and correct to my knowledge and belief, that no part of it is false and that nothing material has been concealed therefrom.
