When you need it

The original possession certificate/slip is unavailable, damaged or wrong, needing a certified reissue. Chandigarh's Estate Office recognises duplicate possession slips — a reissue, not a fresh handover. States the original allotment, possession date/reference, current status, and evidence linking applicant to the record.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

No stamp duty on the application — reissuing a document from the authority's own record isn't chargeable under Schedule I-A. An affidavit or indemnity bond filed with it IS separately chargeable — Article 4 and Article 34 respectively — nominal fixed duties, each on its own stamp paper in the deponent's name.

Registration

Registration is not required for the reissued possession certificate itself.

Notarisation

Not required, unless the authority asks for an affidavit.

Witnesses

Not required; documentary comparison and verification matter more.
