When you need it

Use this when an allotment letter is lost and you need an authority duplicate, not a private copy. Chandigarh's Estate Office recognises such duplicates; Punjab has its own checklist. State the allotment and the loss.

A duplicate reproduces the original, not new terms.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

No stamp duty — it just asks the authority to reissue its own record. An affidavit (Art.4) or indemnity bond (Art.34) filed with it is separately, nominally stamped in the deponent's name.

Registration

Registration is not required merely to obtain the duplicate.

Notarisation

Not required unless an affidavit is needed.

Witnesses

Not required; documents matter more.

In Chandigarh the Estate Officer's allotment file under the Capital of Punjab (Development and Regulation) Act, 1952 is the record of title, so a duplicate or reissued document comes from the Estate Office. In Punjab, on a site allotted by a development authority under the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act, 1995, the authority gives its services only to the allottee on its file.
