Haq Tyag हक़ त्याग ਹੱਕ ਤਿਆਗ
Haq Tyag means relinquishment: a co-owner gives up their undivided share in a property to the other co-owners, usually by a registered Relinquishment Deed. In Punjab it most often happens after a death, when heirs such as daughters release their shares to the mother or to the son who farms the land.

What it's used for
- To give up a share without selling it. It works with or without money changing hands: leaving the payment blank records a release made only out of love and affection or a family arrangement.
- A Haq Tyag brings shares together in fewer owners. If the family wants the property physically divided instead, a partition is the other route.

Questions about Haq Tyag
Can I give up my share to someone who is not already a co-owner?
No. A Haq Tyag only works between people who already co-own the property. Giving up a share to someone outside that group is a sale or a gift instead, and is drafted and charged differently.
Once a Haq Tyag is registered, can I change my mind?
No. A relinquishment is meant to be final once registered. It can only be undone by a fresh deed that everyone involved agrees to sign, or by a court.
Does a Haq Tyag update the land records by itself?
Not on its own. Registration starts the process rather than finishing it. In Punjab the Patwari enters the intkal and the Circle Revenue Officer sanctions it; a Chandigarh sector site updates from the Estate Office on registration; a Chandigarh revenue-village holding needs its own mutation application.
